THE SCIENCE CLUB

The science club of Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School is a voluntary, science oriented society. It has witnessed a series of improvements. Students and members of staff join hands to improve their knowledge and exploration of possibilities to create a better environment for all.

Fortunately, the club has the highest number of staff as coordinators of the club. They are Mr. Pius Ikeharaobi, Mr. Ken Anyanwu and Miss. Oghu comfort. They are dedicated and determined to inculcate the fundamentals and principles required by today's scientists into students. Various programs organized by the science club has engineered first hand knowledge to their members eg excursions, lectures. These illustrated the fundamentals, simplicity and benefits of chemistry and other science subjects.

The activities were highly profitable as the students were able to see the job opportunities awaiting them if they excel. During one of the seminars, students were given the chance to check the sugar levels in their blood. Students were also given opportunity to express themselves and their ambitions.

On the 24th October, 2002 a water treatment model was created by some members of the club. They are:-

Miss Ike Egbuonu Chidiogo and Miss Somiebi Hart under the supervision of Mr. Ken Anyanwu.

The model was created with the aim of purifying the waste water and making it fit for drinking. The model won the second position and a prize money of N20,000.00 was awarded.

The Annual Oil and Gas Workshop was organized by Anpez Children Interactive Centre (ACIC). It was held on the 24th of October, 2002. It is worthy of note that the science club has emerged winners for two consecutive years. The 2003 workshop was not an exception as Micheal Owarume, Kelechim Diorgu and Uzochikwa Ogbuigwe, all of science club led the school to a third consecutive victory. The school was highly honoured.

Moreover, debates and other lectures were organized by the club. The SS Two students who visited the Boskel work-site gave a talk on the operations of Boskel. The principles behind the smokeless flare (which is the company's trade mark) was also discussed. A practical workshop was also carried out, where members of the club studied paper as natural resource.

Furthermore, the science club is very vital to its members as she produced the Best Chemistry Student in Rivers State , Joel Eniza O. an SS3 Student. The club has also developed courage and hard work among staff and students. As the popular saying goes “Science is knowledge” the science club is aimed at making a difference starting now!
