THE MUSIC CLUB, JEPHTHAH COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL.
Music is a way or art of expressing one’s inner feelings, emotions or motives. It can also be said that music is the combination of sounds that are arranged in a way that is pleasant or exciting to listen to.
Ever since this Institution was founded, room has always been made for the art of music. A lot of music groups can be found in the School. These include the Choir/Music Club, Acapella Senior Boys and even the small groups which students come together to form.
As the Head of the Choir, I help the Choristers and myself in achieving the following aims and objectives:
- Developing young talent
- Worshipping and praising God
- Overcoming timidity, hence becoming better and more outspoken people in the society.
Over the years, the mass choir has grown not only in population, but also in the zeal to praise God. Currently, there are about a hundred choristers, that is about a quarter of the students’ population. Every term, new members are recruited into the choir on screening, they are asked questions about any experience in music, their reasons for joining the choir and their skills are also tested.
In 2006, the “Someday Voices” recorded their second major album “Beautiful”. This album featured songs like ‘Behold He Comes’, ‘Heaven’ and ‘Mama’. This succeeded the first, “Out of My Mouth” in 1999.
The choir has also gone out on excursions / outings to various concerts like the Cable Mission Television (CMTV) concert were we saw Asu Ekiye and Buchi and we had fun discussing with them, and singing for them. We also had the Niger Delta Competition in which three choristers sang and came 1st overall. We have experienced tremendous increase in our relationship with our peers and with God.
New choristers undergo voice training exercise and we learn the basic techniques while singing. Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School Music Club is indeed a Club with a difference.
