THE CAPITAL MARKET CLUB, JEPHTHAH COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL.

The Capital Market Club of Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School is one of the various Clubs in Jephthah. Capital Market Club is an extension of the Securities and Exchange Commission which is the apex regulatory body of the Capital Market (a market for lending and borrowing of medium and long-term loan) with its headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

This prestigious Club was inaugurated on the 10th of March, 2006 by the Head of the Port Harcourt Zonal Officer and her team.  Our Club coordinators are Mr. Kelechi Nnah and Mr. Gbobo Tamunonengiyeofori and the following names make up the Pioneer Executives:

This Club has various aims and objectives which include:

  1. To increase our members’ knowledge on the Capital Market.
  2. To enable members understand basic commercial aspects of our economy i.e. trade, etc.
  3. To help members boldly participate in the economical aspects of our country.
  4. To critically analyze and evaluate the administrative efficiency of various companies during their all share index.
  5. To disseminate information on current happenings on the floor of the Stock Exchange.
  6. To broaden our members’ knowledge through excursions, debates.

We have achieved quite a lot in this past year. Not too long after our inauguration, we were invited for a competition on the Capital Market on the 3rd of April, 2006.  We took the best from amongst ourselves, because as at that time, we were relatively few in number.  For the very first time in Jephthah’s history, we were invited for a pure Arts (Commerce, Economics) Competition and we were proudly represented by Miss Adiele Iheoma (SS3), Miss Ezekiel-Hart, Ibimina (Ex-student), Miss Emuchay, Ihuoma (Ex-student), Miss Ojinere Stephanie (SS3), Miss Nwosu Chidinma (Ex-student), Miss Allaboh Grace (Ex-student) and we came back victorious in the sub-zonal and zonal competition with lots of prizes and certificates, although we lost by 3 points to Bishop Dimieri Grammar School, Bayelsa State at the zonal level.  This, thus marked the beginning of victory and success in this Club.

In December that same year, we went for the Port Harcourt Trade Fair on the 14th. “It was my very first time of attending a trade-fair where various traders come to boost their goods. “it broadened our knowledge on commerce and industry as we asked various questions to the traders who had come from far and wide to sell their products and we were pleased at their answers.

In Jephthah, this Club has a CASH FLOW GAME, which teaches our members how to invest wisely in securities (stocks, bonds, shares) and also to learn how to calculate their shares and capital.  It brings out the various dealers in the sale of securities and it helps us to think critically although it’s not factual.
The Capital Market Club membership has now increased because of its relative importance to its members.  It has built up our sense of reasoning and understanding.  Club members sit down to discuss the economic condition of our country, its monetary policies, the value of shares and other securities.

Most of Capital Market Club members aspire to be great personalities in life, as we have great dreams of becoming the Governor of the Central Bank, Nigeria, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Director-General of the Stock Exchange because with the inception of this Club, our horizon has increased and we aspire for great things as “CASH MONEY BOYS AND GIRLS” as we are fondly called.

Furthermore, we intend to visit various educational sites before the end of this year and I believe that this Club will grow to greater heights.

Finally, the Capital Market membership is open to allow its highly educative and informative club.

ADIELE, IHEOMA DIVINE
PRESIDENT
